Last weekend my husband and I attended the Medieval Fair in Sarasota. This is such a fun event to attend, and this year they are running it for 4 weekends! Sarastoa is north of Cape Coral, and is about an hour and 30 minute drive.
This year we decided to go in costume, but there are so many people that do not attend in costume, so don't feel obligated to dress up, even though you will have much more fun if you do!
We ordred our costumes online in advance, but there are several costume vendors set up at the fair. We purchased a few things while there, but the majority of the costumes come at a premium price. The quality is worth the price tag though, these are not your typical bagged halloween costumes.
There is something for everyone at the fair, from comedy shows, to live chess matches and even jousting!
We love to just walk around after grabbing a cold drink from the tavern, and taking in the sites. We always make sure to catch the Washing Well Wenches. Its a hilarious show! I would not recomend this one for the younger children, as the show is rated PG-13. FOr the older kids and adults, this show is a blast!! Just watch out for the first row!
Another great show that we enjoyed so much that we watched it twice was Cast in Bronze. A musical performace with an instrument made up with 4 tons of bells.
Last weekend when we attended, we had a cold front come through, so the temperature was perfect for walking around in costume. If you don't get to the jousting event early, you will likely not find seats in the shade and on a sunny day, it can get warm, so get there early!
There were numerous options for food this year. They had 2 different areas serving food and there was something from everyone, from vegan dishes to the traditional giant smoked turkey leg.
The fair is a great time and I would highly recomend checking it out. Each weekend has a differnet theme, so make sure to check their website HERE to plan your trip up!
